If you have a high resolution system (excellent components, quiet room, etc.) the AHB2 is likely the best choice available today. The Salon2's have an impedance of less than 4 ohms in much of the bass (see the review in Stereophile), where the AHB2 puts out more than 200 watts per channel, and the AHB2 drives them with ease. The AHB2 is one of the few amplifiers that actually "doubles down" as the impedance of the loudspeaker it is driving is reduced, that is, power output doubles when impedance is cut in half. This is in a dedicated media room with sound treatment. The AHB2 was clearly an improvement over the Bryston. I've been using a Benchmark AHB2 for about 6 months to drive my left and right front Revel Ultima Salon2's with excellent results. Do I stick with a Parasouns A21, or is the Odyssey such an improvement that its worth the wait, or is the Benchmark amp worth the $500 premium over the Parasound, especially since I plan to use the Oppo 105 as a preamp, at least for now? I've basically crossed the W4S off my list because of high frequency rolled off reports. I may eventually upgrade to Benchmark DAC2 as preamp/DAC but that is for another time. The amp will be fed directly by Oppo BDP-105 as preamp/DAC using the XLR stereo output. The S/N ratio is excellent and it has variable input levels. I am concerned that the wattage, damping factor are lower, and there is no capacitance spec. The Benchmark AHB2 is $500 higher but has gotten really great reviews and measures well. I've read really good things about Odyssey amps sonically, but my concern is that it can take months to get the amp, and if anything goes wrong, it can take many months to get repaired/resolved, although most owners report years of enjoyment with these. That has me almost crossing this one off the list. Wyred 4 Sound is more affordable and efficient, but I've read that all class-D amps have issues with high frequency attenuation, sounding rolled off. I have read very good things about that amp and am very happy with the A51 I am using for home theater. Wyred4Sound ST-500 MKii with wire/post upgradeįirst choice is Parasound Halo A21. I currently have an Emotiva XPA-200 and am looking to upgrade.
